July 2006

Greece on my mind

116_1617_1

I was in Lesbos, Greece with my husband Paul and Adriaan, our youngest son.

We did this: 116_1630 this: 116_1611 this:115_1596_1

a bit of this: 116_1607_1 this: 116_1656

and a lot of this: 116_1602

In between I was busy

116_1616  reading this book under this tree :116_1613

The socks are for my mothers birthday: today! Due to our heavy program in Greece (see the above) I did only 1 sock. Today I gave this sock to her, promissing that I will knit the other one this week.

The socks are from "folk socks" by Nancy Bush. But I think that goes without saying.

fo: color blox sox

Who said the pattern was too huge and difficult? Would I have said such a thing?

Moi?

Here is a happy ending: the socks are finished, worn and loved !

color blox sox in progress

Color_blox_sox_1 If you want to knit along with the six sox, please keep the following in mind:

1. make sure you have enough time because the pattern is huge. And by huge I mean: 8 (EIGHT) pages long. The writer made a big deal of trying " to make the pattern your own." It didn't. Instead it gave me a nervous breakdown because I could not make any sense of the whole thing. Even after reading it again and again and again I felt stupid. That's not how I want to feel.

2. Make sure you skip the part where the heel is described and follow this instructions.   You will stay sane and feel a lot smarter.

3. Make sure you know mathematics.

Apart from that it's fun. Ha Ha.

hope is not a plan

Hope_is_not_a_plan_2

I hoped it would get better with the sleeves on: it didn't. It looked worse.

I hoped it would get better when I was wearing it: it didn't. I looked worse.

Hope is not a plan.

It is still looking like a bad village- soccer team- shirt in stead of the sophisticated sweater I hoped for.

So end of story: I will burn the thing in an old dutch ritual way, count my losses, lick my wounds and trie to move on.

By the way: the quote "hope is not a plan" is from Dispatches from the edge by Anderson Cooper. Read the book and get lifted.

sheep anyone?

Look at our beautiful emblem of SnB-Breda.   Thanks to battery&battery who designed this bold sheep. They have made this for us in return of three pair of socks.
